IMG_0422Family Holiday Specialist Caringbah and Mosman just recently returned from a Trip to South African, Zambia and Botswana during our visit to Botswana. Mangers Lisa Allan from the Caringbah Store and Sharyn Kitchener from the Mosman store visited “Tujatane School” and donated schooling equipment and sport equipment like skipping ropes, footballs which they just loved and put a huge smile on every kids face.

Some of these children walk 10km per day in the heat just to go to school and then another 10kms home, when they are at school they are given breakfast and lunch and this can sometimes be the only meal they will receive as their families are just too poor to feed their family.

We asked the kids what they like most about going to school and one boy about 9yrs old said, “I love that I have a future!”

There wasn’t a dry eye in the room, they have nothing but are so happy, our kids don’t know how good they have it.

If you ever get the chance to take your children to Africa we highly recommend you visit a school like this one it is a really amazing experience.

If you would like to sponsor a child at Tujatane on their child feeding programme it is only $10 per month so $120 per year and this will a child breakfast and lunch each day.
If you would like to fully sponsor a child it is $900 a year and your children will be able to write and keep in touch with you and your children as they have a wonderful computer room set up at the school.

childrens_hospitalFamily Holiday Specialist Volunteering at the Sydney Children’s Hospital

Earlier this week I was given an amazing opportunity to volunteer at the Sydney Children’s Hospital along with fellow Family Holiday Specialist employees.

Our morning was spent between an orientation seminar, assisting Child Life Therapist Janet packing up “Santa’s Workshop” in time for some renovations and a tour of the Neurological Ward.
Although we only spent a short time within the Hospital it was clear the amount of dedication and kindness possessed by each one of the workers we came in contact with – it was absolutely awe inspiring.

I for one, and I am sure I can speak on behalf of each of the other girls have gained a lot out of that morning – I walked out of the hospital feeling grateful for what I have and to not take anything for granted.

If you do have that extra bit of time and are thinking about volunteering please contact the Sydney Children’s Hospital – every little bit helps!
